Each season, the Civic Symphony of Green Bay is pleased to offer our “Music for Young Listeners” concert, a morning concert program specifically designed to educate and entertain young listeners. In 2025, we are partnering with The Weidner and will appear as part of their Stage Doors educational series. We look forward to filling The Weidner with students from local school groups and homeschools in our community!
2025 Concert Details
Date: Friday, February 14, 2025
Time: 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Location: The Weidner, 2420 Nicolet Dr, Green Bay, WI
Theme: “Heroes” featuring King Arthur: Lion in the Wilderness
Our 2025 program has a “heroes” theme and features the world premiere of King Arthur: Lion in the Wilderness by St. Norbert College professor John Hennecken. This new multi-movement narrated children’s piece tells the story of the rise of the young king. By the end, King Arthur will establish Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table. The young audience will finish the quest forever awakened to the world of orchestral music, inspired by a heroic story, and moved to contemplate the unknown.
The concert will be 60 minutes total, with 45 minutes of music plus a 15-minute Q&A session.
- Prelude to Act III (from Lohengrin) by Richard Wagner
- Rocky Broadway, arr. Patrick Roszell
- I Vow to Thee, My Country (based on Thaxted by Gustav Holst), arr. Geoff Knorr
- King Arthur: Lion in the Wilderness by John Hennecken
Classroom Visits/Presentation
Schools: Musicians from the orchestra are available for classroom visits in advance of the concert to introduce the music, demonstrate instruments, and meet students. We’ll work with you and our volunteer musicians to schedule a convenient day/time. If you already submitted your registration and later want to add a classroom visit, just send an email to education@gbcivic.org.
Homeschools: We will again offer an in-person presentation with several musicians from the orchestra for instrument demonstrations and Q&A. This session will take place on Wednesday, February 5 at 10 a.m. in Fort Howard Hall at The Weidner. If you are unable to attend in person, the presentation will be also livestreamed on our YouTube channel (with playback after the event as an additional option). Please indicate your interest to attend in the registration form, so we can plan volunteers accordingly.
